The city of Palma on the island of Mallorca is one of the most popular destinations within the Spanish Balearic Islands chain.  Renowned around the world for it's beautiful sun-drenched beaches and it's friendly atmosphere, Palma de Mallorca has rapidly become one of the busiest tourist spots in Europe.  Aeropuerto de Palma de Mallorca, the international airport of Palma, has two runways and is always busy with almost five million visitors annually.  A huge number of airlines service the island, with several from the United Kingdom included (British Airways, BMI-Baby, British Midland, Easy Jet, FlyBe, Jet2.com, Ryan Air, Thomas Cook, and Thomson Fly).

While Mallorca is a relatively small island (approximately 3640 square kilometres), it does have a number of beaches and small villages which are hard to reach without private transport.  As such it is recommended that you rent a car for your holiday so that you can be sure you get the most out of your stay.  Within Palma Airport you should find Avis, Europcar, Hertz, Sixt, Record, National Atesa and Auriga Crown car-rental companies, amongst others.

The airport is connected to Palma by the Autovia de Levante (Ma-19): follow the Autovia to the north west for approximately two kilometres and you will find yourself in Palma itself.  Palma has very narrow streets and a dense road network, so if you would like to avoid the traffic you can easily get around Palma by using the Circunvalacion de Palma (Ma-20), which is effectively a ring-road which leads to the western side of the city.  It connects up with the Carreterra de Palma-Palmanova Ma-1 (Autovia de Poniente) which leads to the town of Santa Ponça, home to three top-class golf courses.
